I'm Emily! I'm a mom, a teacher, an advocate, an avid reader, and a cheerleader.

I have worked with kids and in education for over 15 years. My career has spanned Kindergarten to Middle School - including special education and English Language Learners. I'm trained in Orton Gillingham and specialize in Dyslexia.

I believe that all kids are brilliant and deserve to be delighted in. I believe that joy should be at the heart of learning. I believe that instilling a life long love of reading along with solid foundational skills are some of the most powerful gifts we can give our kids. I can't wait to make magic with your reader.

Meet the Teacher

Why Multi - Sensory?

First of all, it's fun! Kids are built to move and play and explore. Digging in sand, rolling clay, jumping and clapping, racing across a room things that are far more natural to a kid than learning letters and sounds. Stimulating students' sensory perception encourages participation. Using more than one sense allows students to build connections that create stronger memories. It's science and it's fun.

Why is Phonological Awareness important?

Phonological awareness is the ability to manipulate, recognize, and hear the sounds of spoken language. This also includes phonemic awareness (individual sounds) and it looks like finding the first sound in a word, counting syllables, being able to take a word apart by it's sounds and blend it back together. Research from a meta study done by The National Reading Panel - shows us that around 80% of students who struggle to read are lacking phonological and phonemic awareness skills. The greatest predictor of a child's success with reading was their PA skills.

What is Orton Gillingham?

Orton Gillingham is a research based, multi sensory approach to teaching reading. It was designed for learners with dyslexia - so it works beautifully for all kiddos. OG follows a highly systematic routine while using sight, touch, sound, and movement to build lasting brain connections.
